Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has signed for Major League Soccer (MLS) club Montreal Impact.
Drogba, 37, was released by Chelsea after last season’s Premier League triumph- his fourth across two spells after 381 appearances.
“One of the biggest days” in the Impact’s “history,” according to club president, Joey Saputo, who went on to say: “It’s an honour to welcome Didier Drogba to the Impact.
“His arrival will be beneficial in every aspect,” he added.
The Ivorian’s wages at the Canadian club will not be restricted by the salary cap currently in operation in the MLS, as he will be a designated player.Impact finished bottom of the table last season.
Drogba’s 65 goals in 105 international matches is still a standing record in Ivory Coast football till date.
