Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Spanish defender Jose Angel Crespo from Córdoba, according to the relegated La Liga side.
The 28-year-old full-back will travel to Birmingham to have a medical, the statement added.
Crespo started his career at Sevilla, where he won the 2006 Uefa Europa League (then Uefa Cup).
The defender, who has been capped four times at Spain Under-21 level, also played for Racing Santander in the Spanish League, as well as spells with Padova, Bologna and Verona in Italy.
Villa are also close to completing a deal for Ghana international forward Jordan Ayew after assistant manager Ray Wilkins confirmed that to TalkSport with a deal in the region of £9m already doing the rounds.
The 23-year-old, who helped French Ligue 1 club Lorient escape relegation last season, is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League.
