Rafael da Silva could be on his way out of Manchester United after Olympique Lyonnais president Jean-Michael Aulas confirmed the Brazilian defender’s arrival in France for contract talks.
Rafael made just 10 league appearances for coach Louis van Gaal’s side last season owing to some fitness challenges, culminating with Uruguayan, Antonio Valencia, filling the right-back position on many occasions.
They have now signed Italian full-back Matteo Darmian from Torino, meaning the Dutch coach has more options in that position than the previous campaign when they finished fourth in the league standings.
“Rafael arrived from Manchester U expect MU 1 agreement on the transfer: cheerful Brazilian,” tweeted the president of the French Ligue 1 club.
Rafael and his twin brother, Fabio, joined United from Fluminense in January 2008 and has made over 100 league appearances for the side, scoring five goals.
The 25-year-old has won three Premier League title in seven years at Old Trafford.
