Woman arrested for duct taping dog's mouth shut to stop it barking

A woman is accused of wrapping duct tape around her dog's mouth to stop it barking, then laughing as she posted the pictures online.  Kimberly Ann Howell has been charged with animal cruelty after sharing the distressing photos on her Facebook page.

The 25-year-old posted the images of her mixed-breed dog, Leah, claiming she was teaching her a lesson for trying to bite her daughter and wrote "Ha ha," in the caption, it was reported.
Someone saw the post and reported Howell to police.
She was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals, according to Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.
Howell, from Salisbury, North Carolina, was later released from prison on $3,000 bond.

Howell reportedly told authorities she removed the tape immediately after posting the pictures, according to Fox News Denver.

Howell later took to Facebook to defend herself.

She wrote: "Wow ok maybe I should of said I was joking when posting that.
"But honestly though people would know better anyone who spend a week at my house would see how spoiled and loved my dog is.
"Anyways guess I really didn’t think through but anyone who knows me knows when I got Leah she was skin and bones how that animal abusee (sic).”
"I have made my mistakes in life too and believe me either I’ve paid for them or am still paying for them. But to call me an animal abuser or child abuser that’s so not true."
Investigators said the dog was healthy and unharmed.

There were no signs of abuse or neglect on her body, the Rowan County Sheriff's Office said.

Howell is due in court on November 4th.

Porsche responds to wrongful death lawsuit filed by Paul Walker's daughter Meadow

Porsche has responded to Meadow Walker's wrongful death lawsuit, which claimed her father’s tragic death was due to design flaws with the car he was in.
Lawyers for 16 year old Meadow Walker, claim her Dad survived the impact of the crash but suffered horrifically when he was helplessly trapped inside the 2005 Carrera GT when it burst into flames.
According to the lawsuit, when the car crashed and broke apart the seat belt “snapped Walker’s torso back with thousands of pounds of force, thereby breaking his ribs and pelvis."
The suit claims the actor was trapped inside the car and was still alive when the fire broke out 1 minute and 20 seconds after it hit the tree.
"Paul Walker breathed soot into his trachea while the Porsche Carrera GT burned,” it alleges.
"The bottom line is that the Porsche Carrera GT is a dangerous car. It doesn't belong on the street. And we shouldn't be without Paul Walker or his friend, Roger Rodas," the teen's lawyer
Responding to the claims on Tuesday, Porsche said in a statement:
"As we have said before, we are very sad whenever anyone is hurt in a Porsche vehicle, but we believe the authorities' reports in this case clearly establish that this tragic crash resulted from reckless driving and excessive speed."
Law enforcement officials said at the time the car was going 80 to 93 MPH.

India Man Lynched And Killed Over Beef Eating And Storing Rumours

A 50-year-old man in northern India has been killed in a mob lynching allegedly over rumours that his family had been storing and consuming beef at home. Mohammad Akhlaq was kicked and beaten with stones by a group of men in Dadri in Uttar Pradesh state on Monday night.

Mr Akhlaq’s 22-year-old son was also seriously injured in the attack, and has been admitted to a hospital. Six people have been arrested in connection with the incident. Police are probing who spread the rumour. Slaughter of cows is a sensitive issue in India as the animal is considered sacred by Hindus, who comprise 80% of the country’s 1.2bn people.
Uttar Pradesh is among a number of Indian states who have tightened laws banning cow slaughter and the sale and consumption of beef. The beef ban has also provoked outrage with many questioning how the government decides what is on their plate. Mr Akhlaq’s family said the family had stored mutton, and not beef in their fridge. The police have taken the meat and sent it for testing, reports said.

Obama Urges World Leaders To Hold Course Against ISIL

US President Barack Obama has urged members of a US-led coalition to hold course in its fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) against a backdrop of growing Russian military deployments to bolster Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government.

Obama said the US-led coalition had grown to 60 nations with the addition of new members Nigeria, Tunisia and Malaysia and had beaten back ISIL from a third of the terrain it once controlled in Iraq.
“We’ve seen that ISIL can be defeated on the battlefield where there is sound organisation and a government and military that is coordinating with this coalition and with our diplomatic efforts,” Obama told leaders at a summit of an anti-ISIL coalition. “It will require diligence, focus and sustained effort by all of us.”
ISIL fighters are being beaten in northeast Syria and have been repelled from almost all of the Turkey-Syrian border across which thousands of foreign fighters have travelled from overseas to swell its ranks, Obama said at UN headquarters. “Like terrorists and tyrants throughout history ISIL will eventually lose because it has nothing to offer but suffering and death,” Obam
a said. “Those who are labouring under their control, it is a stark and brutal life that does not appeal to people in the long term.”

Death Sentence Given In India Train Blasts Case

An Indian court has sentenced five men to death and jailed seven others for life for planning bomb blasts that struck Mumbai commuter trains in 2006, killing more than 180 people and wounding hundreds. Aljazeera has more:

KP Raghuvanshi, a former Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) chief, who had previously handled the case, welcomed Wednesday’s sentencing, saying the court had recognised their investigation into the blasts. “The whole case went on for nine years,” he said.
“After a long trial of nine years, the court has announced the judgement of the case. Five bomb planters have been sentenced to death by hanging and others have been convicted under different sections of the law for conspiracy, IPC [Indian Penal Code] Explosives Act, MCOCA [Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act]. The court has recognised our entire team’s investigation.”
However, Gulzar Azmi, a representative of an organisation providing legal support to the convicts, said the trial was unfair and they would appeal in a higher court for justice. “The real criminals behind the blasts have not been caught. They have given sentence to innocent people,” he said. “It is the court’s decision [to pass this judgement] but the High Court has shot down other such judgements by lower courts before.”
